Stay Informed cause your doctor may not be!

Do not depend on others, doctors, patients, attorneys to make decisions about your health. You, and only you, know exactly how you feel and what your complications are.

Synthetic Surgical Mesh is a permanent, irreversible medical device implant. When you allow your doctor to implant it, there may never be a solution to some of the possible complications.

Don't be fooled by a doctor who tells you it is a "new mesh", a "new procedure", that he/she has never had any complications of his/her surgical patients. "New" should be considered a dirty word when it comes to drugs and devices.

All synthetic surgical meshes, new, old, heavyweight, lightweight, large pore, small pore are made of thermoplastic polymers. Today, or 50 years ago, they carry a heavy price for the mesh injured patient.

Even the most highly skilled surgeons have major complications of their own mesh implantations in their own patients. And even they can not, or will not, be able to remove synthetic surgical mesh once implanted.

All that said, read everything you can about these products so you are an INFORMED PATIENT! Never be swayed by a doctor's sales approach to putting foreign bodies in YOUR BODY!

It's your decision because ONLY YOU will suffer the huge risks synthetic surgical mesh bring with their implantation.

Wishing you all the best as you educate yourself to become as well as possible. There are no magic answers, no local doctor sitting there waiting to fix you. Medicine is not fast food, although drug and device companies spend billions of dollars advertising as though every medical issue has some magical solution.

Beware...Be safe!

Best, Lana Keeton

Current Mesh Thinking....Legal and Medical! Be in the Know!

                            - LATEST MEDICAL STUDY ON MESH RELATED HERNIA PAIN -

Considering hernia repair with synthetic surgical mesh, please read the latest study from Dr. Robert Bendavid of the Shouldice Hospital in Canada (July 2014) on nerve pain and entrapment in mesh pores which cause irreversible pain (Click on text below, one article in 2 parts). Consider native tissue suture repair or non-crosslinked biologic mesh. Surgeons who have the right training will consider both of these options for you. If your surgeon only uses mesh and does not know how to perform a traditional hernia repair with sutures, consider finding another surgeon. Get a second opinion...or a third opinion if necessary. Take care of you!!
